How to Offer Assertiveness

Communication is hard.  It’s particularly hard when you are caught up in difficult emotions.  Often, when we feel hurt, misunderstood, or angry, communication breaks down.  This entry will discuss how to offer assertiveness to those in your life, and why it’s important to do so.   What Even is Assertiveness?   Assertiveness, according to the Better Health website is the ability to communicate your thoughts and feelings, verbally and non-verbally, to another,.. Life Lesson #6 – Concentration (and Video Games)

Today’s Life Lesson involves video games.   I can already hear some of you asking – what lesson could I possibly have learnt from video games?  Well, it’s a very important lesson actually – one involving concentration and focus.   A History Unfocused   I have never excelled at focusing on a single task.  As a child, my attention would flit from topic to topic.  I would get distracted and sidetracked easily, and.. Putting off Procrastination

Procrastination is something we all grapple with from time to time.  It can be a mild inconvenience or it can cripple us for weeks at a time.  Let’s spend some time exploring procrastination a little, and see if we can’t come up with a plan for how to overcome it when it strikes.   A History of Putting it Off   I’ll do it tomorrow.   No sentence has been uttered more.. Life Lesson #5 – Shame

It’s that feeling you get when you just don’t measure up.  That cold, dark sensation that washes over you when you fall down on a responsibility.  This is shame.     Shame affects all of us differently.  For some, it’s a minor inconvenience that arises at the worst of times.  For others, it’s a constant battle, each day a minefield of triggers and obstacles that cause feelings of unworthiness.   I want to.. What I Learnt in 2017

With the dawn of a new year, it’s always nice to reflect on what we have accomplished in the last 12 months.  What went wrong, what went right; what I learnt in 2017.   I can’t remember a year quite as challenging and humbling as the one so recently past.  I would be so bold as to say that it was the best and worst year of my life.   First, I Learnt.. Life Lesson # 3 – Relax!

Relax, slow down, smell the roses, breathe, chill out.   We often find these challenging.  But why?   Why can’t we just sit on our own in silence and feel relaxed?     Time-wasting   As a teenager, I did everything I could to avoid work or deciding on my future.  I dropped out of high school to pursue video gaming and binge drinking.   Everything I was doing was in search.. A Little Kindness

Showing others kindness is, in my humble opinion, one of the most gratifying and fulfilling things you can do.  It generally costs little more than effort, and it can honest change lives.  We often take small gestures of kindness for granted.   Remembering Kindness   I grew up with disability in the household.  My mother had Multiple Sclerosis, and passed away just over 10 years ago.  When I was 10 or 11, she.. Mindfulness Retreat in Nature

Mindfulness

Why mindfulness in nature? Is practicing mindfulness is nature any different than meditating in the city? I believe being in nature makes it easier to connect with ourselves and be present with what is happening in the moment. I had the great pleasure to facilitate the first ever 1-day mindfulness retreat for Conscious Beginnings on Sunday, 27th of November 2016. “Rest you mind and connect with nature” was the theme of this rejuvenating..
